An individual who spiked treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The defendant played a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC added: "Recently" his family member had worries about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the police about his concerns.
She said the man proceeded to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she added.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The prosecutor explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the family member contacted the police once more.
She explained Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
